Production Log

Day 1

On the first day of the filming, we prepared the filming equipments needed; the Canon Mini DV Camera and a tripod and looked through all the precautions in order to film out doors.
Once this procedure was completed, Honey and I headed to Camden with our actress (Rida) to get all our shots.
Camden was calm on a Wednesday afternoon. This helped us to set out the equipments and film peacefully.
Some scenes were easy to film as they were shot in public areas, therefore there were no restriction or secured policy. However, we had a few issues with filming in a restaurant as we needed acceptance from authority. Getting the permission was simply done by speaking to the manager. Though, others owners were hard to convince, for example the shop keeper did not allow us to film in their corner shop.
After a chaotic day of filming, we had finally recorded most of the shots we needed.

Day 2

The next day, we had to get all our filming captured onto the MAC.
During this point, we had realised that all the camera work that we had produced was not there, although we did check all the necessary requirements to make sure we are filming for example an empty tape was used, the red light was on when recording.
With help from our media technicians, we found out that the camera did record no longer than two minutes but no one was actually capable to identify the problem. Hence, all our film was missing.

Day 3

After the incident from the previous day, the group decided to film again in a day where all of us including the actress were available for the whole day. We chose to film on the weekend because of the higher population within Camden High Street. We went through the same process of filming on that day; however we had some complications during filming they were high level of security therefore we were not able to capture everything that was needed in order to complete the filming.
Filming inside Camden underground was easier than expected; we were not disturbed or stopped from any security. However, I was not able to film comfortably as I was surrounded by a big crowd. The tripod was not used, so I had to film hand held which required less effort.
Throughout the filming process, we kept replaying the film in order to check whether we were recording. It was recorded successfully.

Day 4

The film was not completely shot, so the next morning I had to find a high set where I could film the establishing shot.
I found an apartment in a tall building, inside was a balcony over looking the breathtaking city. I set out the camera there, where I first used a tripod when filming, the shots were good however they were slightly still so then I tried shooting the establishing shot hand held and got a fantastic shot of the view. I filmed from different balconies and windows to get different views.

Day 5

On this day I uploaded the film onto the MAC and started to work on it via FINAL CUT EXPRESS immediately as the group was already behind from the others.
Uploading it was a long process and took up so much of my time. After several minutes, I captured the film and was able to edit which was postponed as it was the end of the lesson.

Day 6

The first day of editing was quite difficult. None of the group members who have more experience on editing showed up. There fore, with the help of my teachers, I learned the main methods of editing using Final Cut. As it is a simple programme, I was quickly able to learn the main techniques on editing, although, it takes so much time to become a specialist.
After a few minutes of learning, I was then capable to identify each window and most of the settings. I began cutting out the main shots in the film to create a sequence which was the easiest yet longest process in editing.
The editing procedure takes quite a while, therefore we dedicated many days to editing.

Day 7

I continued developing on the sequence alone.

Day 8

The days were constantly hectic as I was the only member in the group who was present in every lesson to work on the editing.

Day 9

My group member, Honey, finally showed up after resolving her personal issues. After showing her through the latest update of the editing, she contributed her experience and skills to the editing. Some changes and improvement were made to the film which I gladly accepted in order to turn the film into a high quality video.

Day 10

We were still working on the editing, and developing on the sequence.

Day 11

After ending the sequence, we were now able to add effects to some shots. We tried a variety of effects that suited each shot. It took us quite a long time to find out an appropriate effect to be added to the shot.

Day 12

Editing was still taking process. Although we completed most of it, there are always bits and pieces that needed improvements after our teacher’s feedback.

Day 13

On this day we started to produce the soundtrack for our production by using garage band, this was very simple and took just a couple of hours to complete.

Day 14

On this day we recorded our voice over script, and transferred it onto FINAL CUT EXPRESS, where we then edited the voice over to match our film editing. We then uploaded the music soundtrack onto FINAL CUT EXPRESS, where we then played around with the editing so the timing was perfect. Everything was saved and production was completed.
